Camping Annie | Métis lighthouse

Le phare de Métis

The origin of the lighthouse of the Point de Lighthouse goes back to the years which follow the Confederation, when the government of the new Dominion starts to improve its system of national transport. At that time, lighthouses were built out of wood in a temporary way. The first and the second lighthouse are built on the site of the residence of John MacNider who is bought in 1876.

The lighthouse of Métis-sur-Mer counts among the first towers out of concrete reinforced in Canada. It is completed in 1909 by the Department of the Navy and Fishing for the lighthouses. It belongs today to Transports Canada and is exploited by the Canadian coastal Guard. Now, the lighthouse functions in an automatic way. The old house of the guard of the lighthouse and the secondary buildings make from now on left the research center of Canada Forests.
